Grasshopper studies

Nature Takeover Er-Tong, located in the centre of Shougang group is transformed into heart of the area, into monumental dominant, urban oasis with new kind of nature. If the area was left untouched to dilapidate, nature would take it sooner or later and area would become uncontrollable. Instead this project embraces the nature and creates friendly environment for it to develop and grow but at the same time maintain enough space for all new functions, which starts at south just with park function with form more divided and ends at north with residential area which is the most closed, solid structure. The functions are:  RESIDENTIAL – north part of a structure, with the highest density of old buildings have private residential function. Old buildings were restored and serve as housing with various types of flats, mostly intended to be inhabited by young people and families. Organic natural structure was broken here to create easy livable flat environment with flat floor and facade created from opaque glass. Residential area is huge, however considered overpopulation in China it is necessity. GARDEN – main part of the structure with huge open space serves as a park for residential part of the form and surrounding city parts. This part is designed as an interior space, however some spaces fluidly grows into exterior. There are huge cuts on the roof covered with glass, so inner space becomes big greenhouse and even exotic plants can grow there. Smaller trees, bushes and flowers are growing everywhere in this part and in the center there is a patio which ends in the ground and there are biggest tree types. There are several patios in the building. CULTURE – centre of structure is divided into two sections: space for young artist, their studios to realize their thoughts, and a gallery to present their work. RELAX – this area is connected with garden, in lower part it is transformed into beach, in upper area there is a football playground which is connected with exterior. VARIOUS – this part of the structure is designed to be rented or sold as an offices, shops, or services to cover needs of inhabitants. Form in this area is more divided to secure enough various spaces and is freely transforming exteriors into interiors. NATURE – south part of the structure designed as wild, highly divided natural environment, which serves as urban oasis for close city parts, as a forest or a mountain deep inside the city, creating unique experience in the city and becoming immediate attraction and architectural city dominant. This project moves industrial zone into brand new dimension, it rediscovers its previous activity, however with completely opposite function. It is not denying the history of the place leaving industrial buildings untouched mostly, but they are already cut by a new form to create new layers, entrances, functions and invaded by nature growing out from new form. Material from destroyed building and construction site waste is reused in concrete mix, which is the base skeleton for whole structure.

Concept of tranportable internet pavillon for festivals.Mapping net structure  by three different methods :using modularity to create patterns with increasing density and size.using metaball to create circles with diiferent radius representing server size and activity which blend in based on that.using curves to determine connection between servers and illustrate how density grows.with growing number of new servers.final repeating pattern system used to create three dimensional space based on net map rules.form is active developing in time, growing and shrinking .final form is created by cutting previous form and searching for space which can serve as pavilon at festivals.form is created by script based on net rules but is changeable for any interior orexterior space.every space is designed to be accessible for peolple.
pavilon is a huge glass form,easy to transport, part of it is a touch screen which serves as a computer for people at festival.

Project is focused on exploring possibilities of future materials and organic design inspired by living forms. Town is recognized as an organism, breathing, evolving, moving and changing with different needs in a different locations and time. Architecture solution for all town issues located in one stable form would be almost impossible or not working so the decision was to create form reacting to impulses from original layer (town). Goal was to create space- parks and distribute them around the city based on designed trajectories. Form should be also able to crate separated spaces, which lasts only as long as they are used and then they vanish, enabling creation of new ones. Form is composed by three major components: Outer tentacles, which are designed to suck people in right from their apartments and stay connected to them temporary, increasing value of every estate involved in the program. Inner tentacles, which are relatively stable and creates inner spaces of form serving as meeting centre for all citizens mainly planned as parks because of their connection with outer space, but also closed during some day phases or bad weather, what enables them alternative usage. Temporal shell-like structure, which can be add to any estate to serve as a space for temporal action- concert, restaurant, elections etc. Form should create a new mesh, new city relations makes meeting outside attractive again and it is composed from unknown organic materials able to react to impulses. Design and architecture now are getting inspiration by existing forms trying to copy their behaviour, but to get the most of it we have to follow not only their behaviour but also their structure composition and materials.

Park v priamom kontakte s mestom  má oslabenú funkciu, cez deň je využívaný ako park ale v noci sa jeho funkcia mení, slúži ako útočisko pre iné sociálne skupiny, čím jeho aktivita vzrastá z pôvodných 12 – 18 hodín na 24 často sprevádzaná nežiaducim hlukom a výtržnosťami , čo spôsobuje problémy najmä ak sa park nachádza v obytnej zóne (Račianske mýto). Nočná aktivita parku tiež narúša jeho denný chod a to poškodzovaním zariadenia v parku a to až do neúnosnej úrovne. Park prešiel opakovanou rekonštrukciou nasledovanou opakovanou deštrukciou. Parku ako prírodnej oáze v centre mesta tiež neprospieva jeho umiestenie k hlučným dopravným uzlom, či tepnám, treba ho izolovať. Izoláciou parku od mesta sa dosiahne pokoj a ticho v parku, imitujúce skutočné prírodné prostredie. Izoláciou mesta od parku najmä v nočných hodinách v obytnej oblasti sa dosiahne pokoj a ticho v obytnej oblasti, poskytujúce vyhovujúce podmienky na spánok. Avšak umiestniť park mimo mesta by bolo neefektívne a v danej lokalite sa nenachádza vyhovujúci priestor. Jediným riešením ako izolovať park a zároveň ho nechať ľahko prístupný pre celú lokalitu bolo umiestniť ho do novej vrstvy mesta, do vzduchu. Zmenou výšky parku je možné regulovať úroveň izolácie podľa potreby.
